Touji Suzuhara (鈴原 Suzuhara Toji)
is a fictional character from the manga and anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. He is the fourth child chosen (Fourth Children in the Japanese version.)
Toji is a good friend of Kensuke Aida, and has constant conflict with Asuka Langley Soryu. Her younger sister was wounded in the battle between the Angel Sachiel and EVA-01. After learning that the pilot Shinji, Toji gives a beating as payment. However, after seeing Shinji suffered in the fight against Shamshel, Toji begins to respect and become friends.
Toji is motherless and lives with his sister, his father and grandfather, who also work in a laboratory of NERV.
Toji is selected to be the Fourth Child chosen to pilot an Evangelion, and agree on the condition that his sister is transferred to the private hospital NERV.
While the U.S. is transported Japan, Evangelion Unit 03 is owned by Angel Bardiel. The Angel was revealed during the test run in Matsushiro. When Toji enters the entry plug and start synchronization with the EVA, the Angel takes full control of the unit.
After destroying the basis of Matsushiro, Bardiel goes to the Geo-Front. In response, NERV launched the three main units. Units 00 and 02 are sent to stop the unit 03 but are quickly overcome, and Shinji does not accept orders to destroy Unit 03 for fear of injuring the pilot. However, Gendo orders cut synchronization between the EVA and its pilot and activate the Dummy Plug the unit 01.Then the unit 01 proceeds to destroy Unit 03 and get it, crushing the entry plug, and revealing their "true form."
After the battle, Shinji realizes that Toji was the pilot of Unit 03. Toji survives this attack, but is severely wounded, losing his left leg and arm, then disappeared in the commotion of the penultimate Angel.
Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone
In the film, Toji plays the same role as in the first six episodes of the series, but has little role in history. Kensuke him and leave a phone message Shinji wished him good luck before starting the operation Yashima, which helps long before the battle.
Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance
In this version, Toji not selected pilot Unit 03. Asuka is the one who pilots the EVA and almost ends up being wiped out in battle.
