Adam (アダム, Adamu) is the first Angel, and is known for mysterious photo which appears as a giant light, which at one point of second impact shows four large wings. The shape of the Evangelion is very similar to that of Adam, as for example in the typical high shoulders, although it is true that in the EVAs these shoulders are only part of the armor. To contain it, it fell to an embryonic state, a process that caused the "Second Impact".
The name Adamimplies being male. However, Kaworu, the last Angel, refers to Adam as "The entity that is our mother." This does not prove that Adam is in fact a woman, but seems to deny their masculinity, and suggests that Adam is seen as a "Being Mother" along with Lilith and EVAs.
Adam was brought, along with the White Moon, by an unknown "First Ancestral Race", that started life on Earth. Other Angels descended from him, although it is unclear if this is real or metaphorical. Their descendants possess the "Fruit of Life" the source of his power and immortality. The EVAs, with the exception of Unit 01, artificially derived from it. His powers are unknown, but knowing that caused the Second Impact, there should be negligible.
Adam was found in the White Moon, buried in Antarctica. During the expedition of Dr. Katsuragi, SEELE led to the Second Impact for making contact with him using the Spear of Longinus.That same day, his soul was resurrected in Nagisa Kaworu (Tabris), in the same way that Lilith was placed on Rei Ayanami. His body, reverted to an embryonic state, was found separately in the same place, and used as the basis for Evangelion.
Then Kaji took it to Gendo Ikari. This will be implanted in your right palm under his glove. In the series, does not reveal the reason, but in The End of Evangelion is seen as giving rise to the Third Rei absorbs impact when Adam and merges with Lilith.
